Managing Challenging Clients
Did you know on June 5th Roberta is presenting a webinar for NBCDAG on Managing Challenging Clients. Some clients are simply more challenging for us than others - and, ironically, sometimes our colleagues' most challenging clients are easy for us to understand and connect with. Why is that? In this webinar, explore what makes some clients particularly challenging . . . for you. Leave with tips and strategies for strengthening your working relationships, overcoming resistance, avoiding power struggles, navigating conflict, defusing angry clients, assessing employment readiness, learning more about diverse client issues, supporting clients in crisis, screening for suicide risk and mental health concerns, and making appropriate referrals.

Life Strategies May 2012 newsletter is now available. This month's topic is: 10 Tips for Projects That Never End.

In Memoriam
On Monday, April 16th, the Life Strategies family suffered a tragic loss when Gerry, Roberta’s husband and Life Strategies’ VP, passed away. This unexpected loss has shocked family, friends, and professional colleagues. Gerry was an integral member of our team and a dear friend; he will be greatly missed. We’d like to thank all those who sent along kind words and prayers and appreciate your patience during this time as we work through our grief.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Mount of Olives Children’s Village, Missions Network International PO Box 75300, White Rock, BC V4B 5L4. In the memo line, cheques can state “In memory of Gerry Neault.” Learn more about Mount of Olives at www.missions-network.org

#HireCAN

Friday is a great day for chatting for career development practitioners, especially in Canada. Every Friday at 11am PST, career management professionals and recruiters come together on Twitter to chat through the hashtag #HireCAN about relevant topics. On Friday, April 13th, Miranda Van de Kuyt hosted the topic “Talking To Clients About Self-Employment.” She posed a series of questions and different people weighed in with their perspectives – click here to read some of the highlights.

Congrats
In 2004, Life Strategies launched the Career Management Professional Program (CMPP) with the goal of bringing high quality education to career practitioners, career/employment counsellors, and other professionals. The success of CMPP led to the development of other courses and programs; overall, LearnOnline offers over 50 courses and has welcomed students from around the world.

We are thrilled to announce that Life Strategies LearnOnline has trained over 1,000 students since 2004; 42% of them were in British Columbia. We also want to take a moment to congratulate our 1000th student – Shelly McDonald from Whitehorse, Yukon.

Navigating to Your Course

Taking courses through Life Strategies has been such an invaluable experience; the instructors are fantastic, the course content excellent and on-line learning environment allows isolated communities to keep up-to date and take courses. There are so many courses that I still want to take so I this is definitely not the end.
